Free Write 2, Week 5

A new pasteboard bookshelf loaded down. Terminator, The Matrix, Apocalypse Now and The Running Man knock against The Smiths, Animal Collective, and Modest Mouse with an incense burner and camera herding them in. A half empty bottle of Wild Turkey shines next to “Poets & Writers,” “The New Yorker,” and “Rolling Stone.” A guitar scratches All the King’s Men, The Road, Arcadia, and Tryst, while Kontakte and American Splendor gather dust on the bottom shelf beside the Yellow Pages and my mawmaw’s church’s cook book. Burned out candles hold watch at the front, mourning dead Ipods, and last year’s day calendars stare down from the top:

*The marble wall facing the entrance is engraved with the names of luminaries who have worked toward peace among nations.
